Famoudou Konaté

Master drummer Famoudou Konaté (1940) grew up in the Malinke tradition. He was chosen as the first djembe solo player in 'Les Ballets Africain de Guinée' from 1959 to 1985. Since 1987 he travels frequently to Europe to give workshops and concerts. He released two CD's: 'Rhythmen der Malinke' and 'Rhythmen und Lieder aus Guinea' (an instructional CD and book). On Mamady Keita's CD's Mögöbalu and Hamannah he plays solo djembe on several tracks.

Famoudou will teach you Malinke rhythms, which are played on djembe, three dununs (dununba, sangban and kenkeni) and krin. One of Famoudou's qualities is that he can teach at every level. A unique possibility to get in contact with the Malinke music in its most traditional form.
